Hot, humid weather expected in Kansas City. Will rain fall during Chiefs football game?

Warmer and more humid weather is expected in the Kansas City area, making Thursday the hottest day of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

“Today is shaping up to be another warm day relative to earlier in the workweek,” the weather service said. Temperatures will be a few degrees above average across most of the region, ranging from the mid- to upper 80s.

The warmest areas will be along and south of Interstate 70. The weather service said temperatures in the Kansas City metro will peak in the lower 90s. Kansas City’s temperatures are typically in the low 80s this time of year.

Tailgating, game time forecast

A cold front will move through the Kansas City area Thursday night.

The weather service said the front is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, moving in from the north and northwest in the afternoon and lingering overnight. The storms are expected to arrive in Kansas City after 6 p.m.

Lightning and wind gusts greater than 30 mph will be the most likely threats from the storms, but the weather service does not expect them to be severe.

At the 7:20 p.m. kick-off of the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens seasonal opener, temperatures are expected to be mid-80s.

Cooler weather ahead

After the front passes, cooler temperatures are forecast for the metro.

The weather service said Friday afternoon temperatures will be in the low to mid-70s for areas north of I-70 and slightly warmer for areas to the south.

“Saturday is going to feel like fall with afternoon highs ranging in the low to mid-70s across the forecast area, coupled with dew points in the 40s, which will make for cool and dry conditions throughout the daytime,” the weather service said.

Slightly warmer weather is expected on Sunday and Monday as winds switch to the south. Temperatures will be in the 70s on Sunday and the 80s on Monday.
