Siena men’s basketball defeats Saint Rose in exhibition

ALBANY –  Nick Hopkins scored 20 points and Aidan Carpenter added 15 points as the Siena men’s basketball team defeated The College of Saint Rose 77-70 in an exhibition game on Monday night before a crowd of 4,770 at Times Union Center.

It was the first meeting between the Division I Saints and Division II Golden Knights, whose campuses are separated by only six miles.

Saratoga Springs native Adam Anderson had 16 points and Schalmont grduate Shane O’Dell scored 15 points for Saint Rose.

Saint Rose built a 55-47 lead in the second half before Siena responded with a 16-2 run that included seven points from Hopkins, who made a jumper from the free-throw circle to give the Saints the lead for good at 58-57 with 9:24 to play.

It was Siena’s first game at Times Union Center since March 2020. The Saints played all their games on campus at UHY Center in front of no fans because of the coronavirus pandemic last season.

Siena’s Anthony Gaines, Javion McCollum, Taihland Owens and Jayce Johnson didn’t play because of injury.
