White Noise trailer brings Don DeLilo’s iconic novel to life starring Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig

Don DeLilo’s breakthrough 1985 novel comes to life on the big screen for the first time in the upcoming adaptation White Noise.

DeLilo’s book won the National Book Award for Fiction and was on Time’s list of greatest novels between 1923 and 2005, but it had never been adapted until now.

Writer-director Noah Baumbach brings this iconic story to life, with Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig starring as the parents at the center of this new film, debuting in select theaters November 25 before debuting on Netflix December 30.

The trailer begins with a few cryptic images including a train coming out of a tunnel when Jack Gladney (Adam Driver) and his wife Babbette (Greta Gerwig) are woken up in a panic.

‘OK, roll film,’ a voice says as we meet the Gladney family, as Babbette is checking out packs of CareFree gum when she’s interrupted by Denise (Raffey Cassidy).

‘That stuff causes cancer in laboratory animals, in case you didn’t know,’ Denise says, though Babbette says, ‘Either I chew gum, or I smoke.’

The arm of a railroad intersection goes down… but inexplicably a tanker semi crashes into the train, causing a massive derailment and ultimately a large explosion.

The Gladley family is watching footage of the explosion but Jack asks that they watch, ‘a sitcom or something’ but all of the kids say, ‘No’ simultaneously. 

Jack’s son Heinrich (Sam Nivola) says, ‘They’re calling it the Airborne Toxic Event,’ as they look through binoculars at the cloud of toxic smoke swirling nearby.

Outside their home, cop cars are patrolling, telling everyone to ‘evacuate your place of residence’ as we see hordes of families rushing to make it out.

The Gladney’s are on the road and Jack says, ‘All we have to do is stay out of the way,’ but his young son says, ‘They’re passing us dad.’

‘Technically that’s illegal,’ Jack says as the car that passed them gets into an accident, causing the family to scream in unison.  

One of the kids ask if, ‘sheep has lashes’ but Jack is more concerned with their station wagon submerged in water, being carried by river current.

Jack tells Murray, ‘I wish there was something I could do. I wish I could out-think the problem.

Murray tells Jack, ‘There are two types of people in the world: killers and diers. Most of us are diers.’

The trailer winds down with a number of dramatic shots as the trailer ends with the Gladney station wagon going airborne.

The film also stars Andre Benjamin, Jodie Turner-Smith and Lars Eidinger.
