Texas Tech basketball: Grant McCasland answers question about Pop Isaacs lawsuit, allegations
Texas Tech basketball coach Grant McCasland was asked about the civil lawsuit and allegations against Pop Isaacs after the team’s win over Texas.
AUSTIN — Off the team’s 78-67 win over No. 20 Texas in the Moody Center on Saturday night, Texas Tech basketball coach Grant McCasland was asked plenty of questions about the victory.
The final question of the session was about the game’s leading scorer, though not for his performance.
Pop Isaacs scored a game-high 21 points to power the Red Raiders to the victory. On Friday, the sophomore guard out of Las Vegas was named in a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually assaulted a minor during the team’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Also on Friday, Texas Tech athletics released a statement saying the department has been in communication with the Title IX office since learning about the allegations and were told Isaacs “remains in good standing” with the university and that “there is no reason to withhold him from University activities, including basketball competition.”
When asked about the situation, including the decision to play Isaacs, McCasland was short and sweet, saying, “I appreciate the question and the statement that was made by the University is the one that I’m gonna stand by and we’re committed to that.”
