Bemidji Veterans Home receives $10,000 donation for recreational programming

Aug. 8—BEMIDJI — Veterans Home Rest and Relaxation recently donated $10,000 to the Bemidji Veterans Home.

The Bemidji Home’s Recreation Fund will use this donation for activities and goods related to Recreation Therapy activities. Residents benefit from a wide array of activities on and off campus, including art activities, musical performances, coffee and game groups and fishing on Lake Bemidji, a release said.

These activities help veterans engage with each other in the community. According to the release, this engagement, in turn, creates a strong sense of camaraderie and shared social experiences.

“The programs that are boosted by these funds mean a higher quality of life for our residents,” Bemidji Veterans Home Administrator Kevin Gish said. “We see improved physical and emotional coping skills, increased social abilities and better communication.”

Veterans Home R and R also hosts a series of unique regional fundraising activities to benefit the Veterans Home in Bemidji and other locations around Minnesota.

“A veterans home should always feel like a real, true home to residents, a place they look forward to living in and connecting with others who understand and share their stories,” said Mitch Davis, Veterans Home R and R board of directors president. “Our support of Bemidji’s recreational therapy programs that give our heroes the freedom to make the most of each and every day means everything to us.”
