Buddy Carter, Kristi Noem talk Trump policy in Savannah

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem held a Q&A session Saturday afternoon at the Charles H Morris Center’s Trustees’ Garden in Savannah to address Trump’s policies ahead of the general election Nov. 5.

Congressman Buddy Carter and Congressman Mike Collins took part in the discussion to help bolster former president Donald Trump’s campaign and answer questions from Georgia voters.

Although Trump was not in attendance, there was a sense of excitement among those attending the rally.

“She stands for the second amendment and so do I,” said one resident who was awaiting Noem’s arrival. “Groceries are high and there is a lot going on. Something has got to change.”

Noem pointed to the country’s inflation rate as one of the biggest reasons why Americans need to take the upcoming election serious.

“Sixty-five percent of Americans today can’t buy a home or a car,” said Noem. “They have to make $110,000 to buy a home because of how quickly costs has risen. He (Trump) wants to make sure that we’re cutting grocery prices by allowing us to support our farmers and our supply chain and small businesses. If you’ve seen what Kamala Harris has proposed, she wants to increase taxes, take more money away from families and the average family here in Georgia is struggling right now to pay their own bills and they recognize the devastation that would have if she were to get into office.”

Carter added that voters need to focus on policy and “forget” about the chatter between the two presidential candidates.

“I would ask voters, are you better off since the Biden Harris administration took office?” asked Carter. “Are you better, and I think most people will say, ‘no, I’m not.’ I have less money in my pocket. I’m paying more for goods now. I’m paying more for gas. I’m paying more for groceries. The border is in shambles. It’s a crisis there. We’re no longer respected on the world stage like we were during the Trump administration with crime in our cities, all of those things. That’s what matters. Remember, elections have consequences because policies have consequences. Forget about he said this about her or she said that about him. Forget about all that noise. It’s about policies. Donald Trump is right on policy.”

Georgia is a battleground state and has become a key focus for both Harris and Trump. Harris came to Savannah Sept. 5 as part of her reproductive rights tour. It was her second stop in the city this year as she made an appearance back in February. Trump and Vice President nominee JD Vance made a stop in Atlanta. Aug. 3.
