PALM CITY − Two people were flown by helicopter to receive medical attention Friday after sustaining serious injuries in separate crashes, according to Martin County Fire Rescue.
The crashes – one on Florida’s Turnpike and one on Southwest High Meadow Avenue − happened about 2 p.m. and caused traffic delays, fire rescue officials said.
The turnpike crash happened about 3 miles north of the Stuart exit, said Cory Pippin, Fire Rescue spokesperson. It involved multiple vehicles and closed the southbound lanes.
The crash on Southwest High Meadow Avenue happened near Southwest Baneberry Drive. It was a head-on crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a sport utility vehicle, Pippin said.
Fire Rescue crews used special equipment to free the SUV driver, while the semi-tractor trailer driver sustained minor injuries.
Pippen said the crashes were being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol, from which, information was not available Friday evening.
