Dying Light 2 Reveals New Edition and Firearms Update [EXCLUSIVE]

Dying Light 2 developer Techland has always listened to its community. When they wanted the nighttime experience to feel more intense like in the first game, Techland made it scarier. When the community wanted parkour improvements, the team made it more physical. And when the community wanted combat to be more visceral, Techland made it all the more brutal. Dying Light 2‘s direction has always been community-driven, but perhaps nothing proves that more than the upcoming February 22 release of Dying Light 2 Stay Human – Reloaded Edition alongside the game’s promised Firearms Update.

As many fans know, Dying Light 2 was designed as a game with only melee weapons in mind. It didn’t take long for the community to voice its desire for firearms, however, and Techland would confirm that it was working on this addition thereafter. As described by franchise director Tymon Smektala, it was quite a challenge in terms of worldbuilding because firearms were effectively removed from the game world, and it meant this update needed a narrative direction, not just a gameplay one. The wait seems like it’ll be worth it, however.

Players will be able to check out everything in the Firearms Update when it drops alongside the Dying Light 2 Stay Human – Reloaded Edition on February 22. This new edition includes all the new content made to the game thus far, including Dying Light 2‘s Bloody Ties DLC, and includes the Firearms Update as well. The full extent of the Firearms Update remains to be seen, but as fans can see in the video, there appears to be a shotgun, a rifle, and an SMG at least. Smektala also states that the team will continue to refine the Firearms Update as needed, reiterating the studio’s commitment to its community.

That’s not all, though. This update brings in a lot of new content for solo and co-op players, as well as a few surprises for fans of Dying Light 1. The update also improves visuals like vegetation, skyboxes, and zombie faces, and combined with everything else yet to be revealed, Smektala describes this update as the biggest yet for the game. Because of this, Smektala also confirmed a delay for Dying Light 2‘s Nightmare mode and Tower Raids so Techland can continue to refine these features. Notably, Techland sees this update as a celebration of Dying Light 2‘s second anniversary, and fans should keep an eye on the Pilgrim Outpost for these celebrations as well.
