FCA Serbia EV production close

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) would launch production of electric cars at its plant in the central Serbian city of Kragujevac in the second half of July, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic has said.

Vucic, along with representatives from FCA’s parent company Stellantis, would inaugurate production at the Kragujevac plant, he said in a public speech on Monday, according to SeeNews.com.

Vucic said the production would greatly impact the growth of the gross domestic product of Serbia.

He said the new model would be first presented in Italy on 11 July.

Vucic also announced that the government would provide EUR5,000 to every buyer of an electric car in Serbia, with an additional incentive for purchasing locally produced cars.

In April 2022, Stellantis and Serbia signed a deal to jointly invest EUR190m (US$204m) on launching the production of electric vehicles in Kragujevac. Back then, Vucic said production was expected to begin in early 2024.

According to previous reports, FCA Serbia might produce either a hybrid-powered version of its Fiat 500L model or an electric version of its Panda SUV model in the Kragujevac plant, SeeNews said.

FCA owns 67% of the share capital of FCA Serbia. The Serbian government holds the rest.
