Fourth of July firework displays and events to check out around Maine

AUGUSTA

The city of Augusta’s Independence Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. It goes from Capital Street to State Street, through Memorial Circle to Water Street, turning right onto Cony Street and ending at the entrance of Old Fort Western.

Immediately after the parade, Augusta Mayor Mark O’Brien will take the stage to read the Declaration of Independence in 18th-century dress. A musket salute by fort staff will accompany the reading, followed by a special ceremony following George Washington’s orders of July 4, 1778, for the “firing thirteen Pieces of Cannon” honoring the original colonies, followed by the lowering of the Grand Union Flag and the raising of the “new” American flag.

Throughout the day, tours are available for visitors to walk through the fort, store, and house to view period rooms and exhibits and talk with historical interpreters about daily life in the 18th century and the history of the fort.

The city of Augusta’s family-friendly Independence Day event will begin at Mill Park at 1 p.m. with kids’ activities, hayrides, music, and food vendors. The festivities will end at 9:15 p.m. with a fireworks display at Mill Park.

The Fourth of July in Bangor will be packed with fun events. July 4 kicks off with a pancake breakfast and car show at 7 a.m. The 43rd Annual Walter Hunt 4th of July 3K Road Race starts at 9:45 a.m.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. The parade will line up on Acme Rd. in Brewer and enter onto Wilson St. to begin. The parade will continue onto Main St. in Bangor, wrapping up on Exchange St.

A concert will be held to raise funds for children with cancer in the area. Shows start at 5:30 p.m. at the Bangor Waterfront at the corner of Railroad & Front Streets in Bangor.

The day concludes with a fireworks display over the Bangor Waterfront around 9:30 p.m. The city says it can be viewed as far as Brewer.

Bar Harbor says it will be celebrating Independence Day with a day of festivities including the annual Fourth of July parade, concert series, and evening fireworks display over Frenchman Bay.

The Independence Day Parade will start at 10 a.m. The parade winds through downtown Bar Harbor from Main Street to Cottage Street to Eden Street to Mt. Desert Street to Ledgelawn Avenue.

A Seafood Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the whole family to the Bar Harbor Athletic Field on Park Street to enjoy Maine lobster rolls and crab rolls as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, and French fries.

Live music will be held at the Town Pier from 3:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. The town say the free concert series will offer family-friendly tunes.

The Fourth of July fireworks over Frenchman Bay kick off around 9:15 p.m.

The Bath Heritage Day festival starts on July 4 and ends on July 7.

A parade will be held on the July 4 at 10 a.m.

Fireworks will be on July 4 over the Kennebec River at the Bath waterfront around 9:15 p.m.

The 28th annual Antique and Class Boat Parade will begin at noon at the mouth of the Mill Stream on Great Pond.

Participants should gather outside the mouth of the stream behind the orange buoy about 100 yards away from the stream. This will ensure that the gathering boats will be away from incoming traffic to the stream.

The fireworks will be held on July 3 at 9:15 p.m. over Long Pond.

On July 3, country music artist Darryl Worley will play at the Clinton Fairgrounds at 8 p.m. The fairgrounds will open at noon on both July 3 and July 4

Eastport is reportedly home is home to one of the largest 4th of July festivals in the state. Events continue until July 6. There is a craft fair, watermelon eating contest, live music, and much more.

On the Fourth of July, an annual Blueberry Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Eastport Municipal Airport from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Grand Independence Day Parade starts at 2 p.m.

On the Fourth of July, there will be a 4th of July 10K & Fun Run in Freeport. The road race begins at 7:25 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:10 a.m.

The Freeport Main Street Parade kicks off at 10 a.m.

A concert in the park at L.L. Bean will be held at 7:30 p.m. and it will feature 12/OC.

Freeport’s fireworks extravaganza begins around 9:15 p.m. at L.L.Bean Discovery Park at 95 Main St.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on July 4. The parade will come from the Junction and end at the center of town.

The Birches Resort is hosting its annual 4th of July fireworks show on July 4 at dusk. The restaurant and bar will be open and they will have music.

According to the Bangor Daily News, fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. on the Waterfront on Wednesday, July 3

The Fourth of July parade starts at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Catholic Church on Main Street on July. The parade is a mile long loop through Historic Market Square, into Union Square, and back up Military Street.

On July 4, festivities will begin at 5 p.m. in Lewiston at Veterans Park and 6 p.m. in Auburn at Great Falls Plaza.

On the Lewiston Stage will be performances by Bazinga, national award winning Robert Washington as “Elvis”, and the L/A Harley Band.

In Auburn, there will be a dance party & karaoke with DJ Scotty Dawg, and more.

On both sides of the river you will find various vendors.

Fireworks will be at 9:30 p.m. (Rain date: July 5).

On July 5, starting at 6 p.m. the Liberty Festival is excited to announce an additional night of great music, dancing, and fellowship. Featuring Maine’s very own American Idol contestant Julia Gagnon and the Country Roads Band at Veterans Park in Lewiston. (Rain date: July 6).

On July 6, starting at 6 p.m. the Liberty Festival will host “A Salute to the American Flag and Retirement Ceremony” featuring the 195th Maine Army National Guard Band at Veterans Park in Lewiston. Please bring any flags that may need to be retired. (There will be no rain date).

The Fourth of July fireworks display will be on July 3 at dusk. It will be held over the Limestone Pond.

There will also be a street dance on July 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the corner of Access and Main Street. There will be a band, bounce houses, and more.

A parade will be held on July 4 at 1 p.m. at Main Street and High Street.

Fireworks will light up the sky in Limington on July 3. The fireworks display will be held at Mill Pond on Route 11 behind Sleeper’s Supermarket. The fireworks start at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.).

A parade will be held on July 4 at 10 a.m. The parade starts at the old town hall and ends at the new town hall.

A cornhole tournament will be held on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Limington Ball Fields. It’s $50 per team and all proceeds benefit Limington Fire & EMS. There will also be a touch-a-truck event as well as food vendors at the ball fields.

Mexico will host its first Fourth of July festival at the Recreation Park off Roxbury Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be pony and horse rides, music, food, entertainers, a cruise-in car show, and more.

Parade begins at 10 a.m. on July 4 at Northern Shopping Plaza, concluding on Penobscot Avenue. Children’s parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Bangor Savings Bank.

There is a vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Park. There will also be a DJ.

Fireworks will be held at dusk on July 5.

The town of Ogunquit says a dazzling fireworks display will be visible from Main Beach all the way up to Footbridge Beach, North Beach and beyond. The fireworks will start around 9:15 p.m. A rain date is set for July 5.

Ocean Park 73rd Annual Independence Day Parade will be held on July 4. The town says the parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Bell Tower on Bell Tower on Temple Ave. Kids can decorate their bikes at home and ride them in the parade. The parade will be followed by a Band Concert at the Bandstand.

Independence Day fireworks display (weather permitting) by the Pier and Palace Playland on the beach at 9:45 p.m.

The city of Portland is hosting a fireworks display for the Fourth of July. The display will be held on July 4 in its usual spot on the Eastern Promenade with the fireworks set to go off around 9:15 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for July 5. Food trucks will be available on the Eastern Prom Roadway.

Fireworks will be launched from the East End Trail. The trail will need to be closed from Cutter Street to the Water Treatment Plant from 6 a.m. until deemed safe by city staff at approximately 11 p.m. In the event of rain, these trail closings would be in effect until July 5 (same times would apply).

The Casco Bay Wind Symphony will also perform this year, starting at 7 p.m. until the beginning of the fireworks show.

The city would like to remind the public that the fireworks can be seen from other locations than the Eastern Promenade. These locations include East End Beach, Fort Allen Park, Amethyst Park, Baxter Boulevard, Payson Park, Martin’s Point on Veranda Street, and Bug Light in South Portland.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., on July 4 (July 5 rain date):

  • Eastern Promenade from Morning Street to Congress Street, Wilson Street from Morning Street to Eastern Promenade, Moody Street from Morning Street to Eastern Promenade. In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect for July 5.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4 (July 5 rain date):

  • Congress Street from Morning Street to Eastern Promenade, Turner Street from Morning Street to Eastern Promenade, Quebec Street from Emerson Street to Eastern Promenade, Melbourne Street from Emerson Street to Eastern Promenade, Montreal Street from Willis Street to Eastern Promenade, Walnut Street from Willis Street to Eastern Promenade. In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect for July 5.
  • All of Munjoy Hill and the Eastern Promenade will be closed to traffic (from Washington Ave. up), starting at 6:30 p.m. on July 4 (July 5 rain date). Street closures include Mountfort Street at Fore Street and Congress Street, Washington Avenue at Congress Street, Marion Street, Cumberland Avenue, Walnut Street, and Eastern Promenade. Streets will be opened up again after the fireworks display at approximately 11 p.m. In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect for July 5.
  • On-street parking will be restricted from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. on July 4 at Eastern Promenade (both sides) from Morning Street to Walnut Street, Fort Allen Park (both sides), Walnut Street (one side) from Eastern Promenade to Washington Avenue, Mountfort Street (one side) from Fore Street to Congress Street.

These streets will be posted in advance, any cars parked illegally will be towed at the owner’s expense. In the event of rain, these restrictions would be in effect for July 5. With construction, these restrictions may be subject to change.

  • Cutter Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on July 4 except for designated handicapped parking from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. or until deemed safe by city staff. Access will be allowed for boat launches (no extended parking, drop off/pick up only) until 6:30 p.m. on July 4. In the event of rain, these street closings would be in effect at 6 a.m. on July 5 and ending at approximately 11 p.m.

NAPLES

Celebrate America’s birthday with a family-friendly 4th of July celebration on the Naples Causeway.

The fireworks display from Long Lake is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Attendees can expect heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area throughout the day and evening of the 4th. There will be road closures and delays along Route #302 in the hours leading up to and during the fireworks.

Route 302 will be closed to vehicle traffic at the intersections of Route 35 (Harrison Road), Route 114 (Sebago Road), Lakehouse Road and Lambs Mill Road beginning at 9:10 p.m. through 10 p.m.

The Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce says come celebrate our country’s independence on July 3. This is Rangeley’s 4th of July celebration.

Events start at 10 a.m. with a Doll Carriage Parade at the Rangeley Inn & Tavern and ends at the Town Park.

There is a dog parade at 1 p.m.

The day concludes with fireworks being shot off from the Town Park around 9 p.m.

According to the town of Rumford’s website, there will be Fourth of July festivities that include food, music, a dunk tank, and fireworks starting at 4 p.m. at Hosmer Field.

According to Sanford Parks and Recreation, there will be a block party at Number One Pond on July 3 with vendors, a water ski show and fireworks starting at 4 p.m. On July 4, there will be parade down Main Street starting at 10 a.m. at Malcolm Ave. ending at Gowen Park.

Parade starts at 11 a.m. on Main Street on July 4. There will be live music, activities, and vendors.

Fireworks will start at dusk on July 4 behind the block on Valley Street.

Fourth of July fireworks will be held at Short Sands Beach in York. They start at approximately 9:30 p.m.
