Data from the New Jersey municipal courts showed how many traffic tickets were distributed in each town, borough and city in every county across the state.
The statistics released include DWI, moving and parking violations. Other information in the reports include tickets have been resolved in court and how many of the tickets are part of backlog or pending.
The traffic tickets that were taken into account were occurred between between July of 2023 and June of 2024. The report also has the previous year listed so residents can compare the increase or decrease in parking violations.

As expected the major cities of Passaic County have by far the most amount of traffic violations handed out between 2023 and 2024, with Paterson leading the way.
The estimated population of Paterson in 2023 was 156,452, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. So the city gave out almost as many traffic tickets as the number of people who reside in the community. Paterson is one of the largest cities in the entirety of New Jersey.
While Clifton was more populated than the city of Passaic in 2023, Passaic gave out more traffic tickets, according to the data.
Paterson, Passaic and Clifton all saw the number of traffic violations increase compared to the previous year while Wayne township saw the traffic tickets decrease.
The major cities, Paterson, Passaic and Clifton, all have parking tickets lead the way as the overwhelmingly most amount of traffic violations given out the past year. Wayne has handed out more tickets during traffic stops than parking tickets. The town distributed 15,652 moving traffic tickets and 598 parking tickets.
