In Charlotte, Harris-Walz campaign to tout financial relief plan for working families

The Harris-Walz campaign will tout its financial relief plan for working families during a stop in Charlotte on Tuesday.

Headliners will include U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, U.S. Rep. Alma Adams of Charlotte and Charlotte city council member Dimple Ajmera, according to a campaign news release on Saturday.

Charlotte parents Manolo Betancur and Stacy Staggs also are scheduled to speak at the 3 p.m. news conference. The location wasn’t announced.

In Raleigh Aug 16, Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled her plan to lower costs for families by restoring the child tax credit. The plan would provide up to a $3,600 per-child annual tax credit for middle-class families.

During her Raleigh appearance, Harris also announced new policies to address high food, prescription drug and housing costs, The News & Observer reported at the time.

Her proposals also include a first-time banning of “corporate price gouging” in the food and grocery industries and providing up to $25,000 in down-payment assistance for first-time home buyers.

The press conference, albeit by surrogates for the Harris-Walz campaign, shows the increasing attention being paid to North Carolina as the election nears. Former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, had a clear lead in the state before President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris to succeed him. Since then, most polls show that the state has become an important tossup.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, was in Raleigh on Thursday to visit campaign workers and attend a fundraiser, and Trump is expected in Charlotte in coming days to address the annual board of trustees meeting of the Fraternal Order of Police.
