A 17-year-old Lehigh Acres passenger died in a four-car crash Friday afternoon, with troopers looking for one of the cars involved.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old male from Fort Denaud was driving a car at a high rate of speed on State Road 82. As he approached a T intersection of Harcourt Avenue with three passengers, a second car also traveling at a high rate of speed followed.

As they neared the intersection, they approached an SUV, driven by an 18-year-old Lehigh Acres woman, and a car driven by a 44-year-old North Fort Myers man.
The first car hit the SUV, pushing it into the car driven by the North Fort Myers man, troopers reported. The impact sent the first car onto a curbed shoulder where it collided with a street sign and launched it into the tree-line.
One of the 17-year-old passengers died, troopers reported. The other three people in the car, including two male passengers, were taken to a hospital in serious condition. Two female passengers in the SUV, all of Lehigh Acres, did not sustain injuries, nor did the 44-year-old driver of the fourth car.
The death is at least the 75th on Lee County roads in 2024.
Troopers said the second car, a white sedan traveling at a high speed, did not remain at the scene. They ask anyone with information on the car contact them or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
