Meet the Library’s new executive director and take part in other fall events

As crisp fall air settles in, the Library invites you to dive into a season of engaging events and community activities. From joining our Teen Volunteer Council and checking car seat safety to enjoying Cherokee storytelling and documentary screenings, there’s something for everyone. Plus, meet our new Executive Director Ed Walton and learn about our library’s growth.

Car seat check-up with Willard Fire Department

Caregivers and children from infants to age 6 are invited to enjoy a special story time with the Willard Fire Department at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Willard Branch Library. The story time will feature a check to ensure car seats are properly installed and a fire truck for everyone to see.

Teen Volunteer Council recruitment event

Pick up an application and learn how to get involved, give back, meet new friends and log volunteer hours by joining our Teen Volunteer Council at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch, for ages 14-18.

‘Join or Die’ documentary

Celebrate the start of Missouri Good Neighbor Week with two special screenings of “Join or Die,” not rated, from noon-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Republic Branch Library. Follow the story of America’s civic unraveling through the journey of scientist Robert Putnam, author of the groundbreaking book “Bowling Alone.” A discussion will follow the film, including opportunities to “join” in our community. This program is in partnership with the University of Missouri Extension of Greene County.

Cherokee stories of animals and the moon

Kituwah Cherokee Storyteller Choogie Kingfisher will share the childhood stories of the Cherokee people at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the Library Center auditorium, for ages 4 and older. This program is sponsored by the Library Foundation.

Meet the Library’s new executive director

Meet Ed Walton, the newly appointed Springfield-Greene County Library District Executive Director from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Library Center auditorium. Ed will be available to answer questions and share information and graphics on the current construction projects at the Library Center, Midtown Carnegie Branch Library and Republic Branch Library.
