Nick Cannon is settling into being a dad of two teenagers.

Speaking with PEOPLE at Prime Video’s Counsel Culture dinner at The Linden in Los Angeles, Calif., which was hosted by the Masked Singer host, Cannon, 43, opened up about how he was feeling about his oldest kids Morocco and Monroe turning 13.

“They’ve been teenagers. They’re super advanced, and I learned so much from them,” the proud dad says of his twins, whom he shares with ex Mariah Carey. “I’ve got five years and four years, and they’re in college. So I’m just soaking up every moment.”

“I’m watching my daughter turn into a young woman. It breaks my heart every single day. I’m watching my son be just like me. And obviously I got a lot more behind them,” the dad of 12 tells PEOPLE. “So they’re teaching me through this process.”

“I mean, I’ve been learning from them since the day they were born, but really just understanding compassion, understanding really how to just love. I’ve never had so much unconditional love that comes from my children, specifically my oldest, they give me shots. They give dad second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances.”

This past May, Cannon’s twins turned 13, officially cementing them as teenagers. In honor of their birthday, Cannon donned matching T-shirts with his children, which read “Roc + Roe” and featured their faces instead of the “Os” in their names in a photo shared to his Instagram.

In a second picture, Morocco and Monroe threw up peace signs as they posed in front of a backdrop that read, “Happy 13th birthday Roc & Roe.”

“Can’t believe 13 years ago I was blessed with the greatest gift of becoming a father!! God has truly had his hand on the lives of two of the most loving, kind, intelligent and well-balanced humans I have ever witnessed!” Cannon wrote in his caption.

“Thank you for teaching how to love everyday and thank you for letting me be your dad! I’m going to eventually get it right, I promise!! Now let’s get back to partying! I love you Roc and Roe!! Happy Birthday!!!” he continued.

Alongside his twins, Cannon is dad to 10 other children, including sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon and daughter Powerful Queen whom he shares with Brittany Bell; twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi; and daughter Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole.

He is also father to two children with Alyssa Scott — son Zen, who died at five months old in December 2021 after being diagnosed with brain cancer, and daughter Halo Marie Cannon, who was born in December 2022.
