Nintendo’s Emio Reportedly Isn’t A Bloober Game

Nintendo‘s Emio reportedly doesn’t have anything to do with Bloober Team, which furthers the idea that it’s a first-party project coming straight from the Big N itself.

Nintendo has already had a much stronger month than most of us were expecting from the seemingly final year of the Switch’s life, but it looks like it has plenty more surprises up its sleeve that don’t fit into a Nintendo Direct. Earlier this week, Nintendo randomly dropped a teaser for a creepy game called “Emio”, which seems to be a first-party horror game.

Although the surprise reveal and Nintendo Japan website had most people thinking that Emio was coming from Nintendo itself, rumours started popping up that suggested that it could be part of a collaboration between Nintendo and Bloober Team, best known for The Medium and the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake.

Emio Reportedly Has Nothing To Do With Bloober

The evidence behind Bloober Team potentially working on Emio came from a statement from the company’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, which revealed that it was working on a game that’s exclusive to Nintendo called Project M. Internet sleuths then discovered the letter m was affixed to several assets on the Emio site, suggesting it might be what Babieno was talking about.

It seems that might just be a coincidence, however. IGN’s latest episode of Nintendo Voice Chat features the team talking about the announcement of Emio and all of the rumours surrounding it. During the episode, the rumours of the game being related to Bloober Team are brought up and quickly dismissed, with IGN’s team saying that it has multiple reputable sources suggesting it’s not linked to Bloober.

“I can say that we have sources that say that it’s probably not. We have reputable sources that say probably not a Bloober game.”

While it’s possible that those sources could be wrong, if multiple respected insiders are saying that Emio has nothing to do with Bloober Team, then it seems likely to be the case. That still leaves some mystery about who is actually working on Bloober, although the answer does seem to be that it’s a first-party title of sorts.

Although Bloober has made some good games in the past, it’s fair to say that this will be good news for a lot of horror fans. Bloober has a bit of a reputation for not handling sensitive subjects with grace and being a bit too obvious about its scares, so it not being involved in Emio does make the project a bit more exciting.
