Over 20 hospitalized from mushroom chemical found inside edibles sold in Nevada

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – All flavors of the brand Diamond Shruumz is being recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The brand comes in forms of chocolate bars, infused cones and extreme gummies found in micro and mega doses.

The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board says 39 illnesses have been reported so far with 23 hospitalized.

The FDA said they collected multiple samples of the brand for testing and analysis. As of June 25, the FDA found the following:

  • Diamond Shruumz Dark Chocolate Bar
    4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)
    desmethoxyyangonin
    dihydrokavain
    kavain
  • Diamond Shruumz Birthday Cake Chocolate Bar
    4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)

States with cases: AL, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IN, IA, KY, MD, MN, MO, MT NV, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN.

Officials say the people who became ill are experiencing symptoms of seizures, depression, agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper or hypotension, nausea and vomiting.

The FDA does not know which exact retailers are selling the brand, but that a variety of retail stores nationwide are selling them.

The FDA recommends that consumers should not eat, sell or serve and flavor of the brand and should discard them or return to the company for a refund. Officials say retailers should cease selling them.

Parents and caregivers should also discuss the recall with their children, advised by the FDA, as the brand may appeal to younger ages.
