REPORT: Knicks will work out Hofstra star on Friday (Updated)

Add another player to the list! Per Adam Zaboria (NJ.com) reports, “Hofstra star Tyler Thomas recently worked out for Cleveland, Houston, Orlando and Minnesota and has the Knicks on Friday.”

The 24-year-old Thomas began his college career at Sacred Heart University before transferring to Hofstra in 2022. While at Hofstra, he became one of the most prolific scorers in the program’s history and won the Haggerty Award, “the oldest and arguably most prestigious award given to a metropolitan area player” according to Wikipedia.org.

UPDATE: Stefan Bondy (NY Post) reports that the Knicks auditioned multiple players today, including Jacki Cui (G, China), David Jones (F, Memphis), Spencer Jones (F, Stanford), Ajay Mitchell (G, UCSB), Antonio Reeves (G, Kentucky), and Thomas.

Tyler Thomas had an outstanding 2023-24 season, earning the title of Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Year and a spot on the All-CAA First Team. He ranks 20th in Hofstra’s history with 1,320 career points and set both the Hofstra and CAA single-season record with 125 three-pointers made. Thomas is fifth in Hofstra’s history with 217 career three-pointers. Averaging 22.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, he ranked fourth nationally in scoring and second in three-pointers made per game (3.8). He was named to the CAA Championship All-Tournament Team, selected for the NABC – Reese’s Division I All-Star Game, and competed in the Hanes Originals Soft Touch Men’s 3-Point Championship.

As Zaboria observes, the 6’3”, 190 lb guard “isn’t considered a top-100 prospect by ESPN, but could catch on with a team in free agency if he goes undrafted.” His shooting touch vastly improved after his arrival at Hofstra. In 2022-23, he made 41% from downtown on 6.5 attempts per game, and 37% from deep on a whopping 10 three-point attempts last season. The shooting alone justifies putting him through his paces and taking a longer look. He could be a flamethrower for the Westchester club.

Good luck Tyler. Go Knicks!
