Timothée Chalamet & “Happy People” In Boygenius Make Bowen Yang Feel Old In ‘SNL’ Promos; Plus, ‘Dune’ Star Gets Smoked – Update

UPDATED with new 10-second promos, 4:40 PM: This week’s Saturday Night Live host Timothée Chalamet and musical guest boygenius huddled with castmember Bowen Yang for a trio of 10-second promos for the show. And let’s just say their youthful exuberance brings out some “get off my lawn” vibes in the late-night regular.

Also, the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike allows Chalamet to do a little cheerleading for a certain chocolate-covered film he toplines that’s hitting theaters in a month.

PREVIOUSLY, November 8: Why is Timothée Chalamet in Studio 8H?

That’s the trick question posed in the latest Saturday Night Live promo. This weekend, Chalamet will make his second guest host appearance on the NBC comedy series, which would explain why the promo opens with the Wonka star dreamily walking through the hallowed 8H halls. (“So many iconic parts to this studio,” he thinks to himself, adding, “The Update desk, where Che and that other guy sits.”)

As the moody black and white footage jumps to color, an alarmed Mikey Day asks fellow cast member Sarah Sherman, “Why is Timothée Chalamet in the studio?” The punchline follows, so check it out above.

Without giving away the bit’s payoff, though, we can say Chalamet gets in a nice shoutout to his hometown of NYC. “I’m immune!” (The line works better when you watch the video).

Joining Chalamet on the November 11 episode will be musical guest boygenius, the indie supergroup comprised of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus.

As Deadline previously noted, whether Chalamet can actively promote Wonka during the show might depend on whether the SAG-AFTRA strike has been settled. Chalamet is the first movie star to host SNL this strike-impacted season, following a string of episodes hosted by stand-up comedians (Nate Bargatze, Pete Davidson) and rapper Bad Bunny.

Chalamet made his Saturday Night Live hosting debut on December 12, 2020.

SNL airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock.
