Sep. 6—Two occupants of a buggy were hospitalized Thursday following a crash between a buggy and a tractor near Middlebury.
Elkhart County deputies reported that at 3:50 p.m., Wayne Miller, 67, of Shipshewana, was travelling east on C.R. 16 approaching C.R. 43 in a buggy when he lost control of his horse and crossed the center line striking a 1998 tractor hauling a trailer driven by Timothy Miller, 28, of Goshen.
The buggy tipped on its side.
Wayne and his passenger were hospitalized by ambulance.
ROLL OVER CRASH
An Elkhart man was injured in a crash in Cass County on Thursday.
Cass County deputies report that at 7:57 p.m. Oscar Davis, III, 44, of Elkhart, was traveling north on Barron Lake Road when he reached down to pick up a pack of cigarettes. Davis said he looked up and realized he was in the wrong lane so he tried to correct himself and over corrected causing him to roll his vehicle multiple times.
Davis was transported by ambulance to South Bend Hospital for injuries sustained in this crash.
HIT-AND-RUN
Phillip Blaisse, 65, of Florida, reported to Goshen police at 10:35 a.m. Thursday his vehicle was sideswiped by another vehicle in the 2400 block of Elkhart Road.
ARRESTS
—A 34-year-old man and a 36-year-old man were arrested at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday by Elkhart County deputies after a homeowner in the 29000 block of C.R. 16 in Elkhart reported that people broke into his home and stole items and also stole his Mercedes E350.
—A 33-year-old man was arrested by Goshen police at 6:09 p.m. Thursday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in the 23000 block of U.S. 33 in Elkhart.
BURGLARY
—A 21-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 9 p.m. Sept. 3 and 7:30 a.m. someone broke into her apartment in the 52000 block of Brookstream in Elkhart, and also battered and strangled her.
—A 61-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between Aug. 30 and Sept. 5 someone stole a large amount of copper wire from a property in the 50000 block of Ind. 13.
—A 68-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday someone stole power tools from the 30000 block of C.R. 10 in Elkhart.
CRIMINAL RECKLESSNESS
Elkhart County deputies responded to a report that someone in the 24000 block of C.R. 45 shot a handgun into the air at 11:32 p.m. Tuesday.
THEFTS
—A 53-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. Thursday someone stole her 2014 Hyundai from her driveway in the 54000 block of Ash Road.
—A 24-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 9 a.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday his Ruger handgun was stolen from his vehicle in the 24000 block of C.R. 45 in Elkhart.
—An 83-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that someone stole his red 2006 Dodge Ram from the 2000 block of South Nappanee Street on Monday.
—A 57-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 1:59 p.m. Thursday that a ring and $650 in change were taken from his home in the 30000 block of Kevin Court.
FRAUD
A 37-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between Aug. 6 and Wednesday someone committed fraud.
OFFICER’S REPORT
—Elkhart County deputies responded at 8:16 a.m. Thursday that a dog got off its leash and bit a 32-year-old woman in the 20000 block of Mississippi Avenue.
