U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson says nephew wounded in attempted Trump assassination

The nephew of U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Amarillo, was among those wounded during a shooting and apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally Saturday evening in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to the congressman.

Jackson is a Levelland native who served as physician to presidents Barack Obama and Trump before he was elected to represent the Panhandle- and North-Texas-based Congressional district. Trump was wounded — an apparent non-life-threatening bullet wound to his ear — while one member of the audience was killed and others were injured, according to USA TODAY reporting. The shooter was reportedly shot dead by Secret Service.

Jackson released a brief statement about his nephew and the shooting Saturday evening on Facebook.

“My nephew was injured at the Trump rally in Butler Pennsylvania. Thankfully his injury was not serious and he is doing well. My family was sitting in the front, near where the President was speaking. They heard shots ringing out — my nephew then realized he had blood on his neck and something had grazed and cut his neck. He was treated by the providers in the medical tent. Thank you to all those that have reached out to check on him.

Please join my family and me in praying for all who were injured and the life lost.

The President and the survivors are lucky to be alive.”
