The Boys is coming to an end. While Prime Video’s superhero satire series has been renewed for another season, Season 5 will unfortunately serve as the show’s last. Read on to learn the reason behind The Boy’s cancellation on Prime Video below.
The Boys, based on the bestselling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick, follows a group of vigilantes who aim to take down corrupt superheroes called “Supes” who abuse their powers. The upcoming fourth season will premiere on Prime Video on Thursday, June 13.
“The world is on the brink,” the official synopsis for Season 4 reads. “Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office—and Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The team is fed up with his lies—but with the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world.”
Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and more are set to return for Season 4. Meanwhile, newcomers include Rosemarie DeWitt, Rob Benedict, Elliot Knight, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Cameron Crovetti, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Why Is The Boys Ending With Season 5?

Two days before the Season 4 premiere of The Boys, showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the R-rated Prime Video drama will conclude with its fifth season.
“#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” Kripke said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The post also includes a screenshot of a redacted copy of the script for the Season 4 finale, “Assassination Run.”
The showrunner revealed that ending with Season 5 was always his “plan.” Kripke continued, “I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”
Rumors started swirling that the next season of The Boys would be its last after Amazon renewed the show for Season 5 in May before Kripke and the cast began promoting Season 4. According to Variety, the showrunner had previously stated that he wanted at least five seasons to tell the story. The Season 5 renewal announcement back in May also did not specify that it would be the final season.
The Boys has become one of Prime Video’s most successful original series, inspiring an animated spinoff called Gen V that’s set in the same universe. Kripke recently explained to The Hollywood Reporter in June that the show’s budget hasn’t take a large hit despite media companies’ recent spending cuts.

“We’ve been lucky in that The Boys has become one of their flagships. We get a level of freedom that it’ll be hard to repeat anywhere,” Kripke said. “That said, we have budget battles. But, ultimately, we figure out a way. We made Gen V for a lot less money, and there’s a target that we have to hit on that show — whether we like it or not. There’s a couple of things in development. You have to pre-negotiate the budgets, and those budgets are a lot tighter than what we’ve had in the past. So, we’re feeling it.”
The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 will premiere on June 13, 2024, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT on Prime Video. New episodes will be released weekly until the Season 4 finale on July 18, 2024.
