3 Tobey Maguire’s References Marvel Fans Can Not Miss in PS5’s Record Breaking Spider-Man 2 Video Game

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has already become the fastest-selling first-party title at launch, with 2.5 million copies sold in just 24 hours. The gaming community has gone head over heels for the latest Spider-Man game. One exciting thing about the new video game that most people overlooked is its several references to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the first PlayStation 5-exclusive video game. Insomniac Games did a great job with the game. The story of two Spider-Man coming together to save New York is the story for the ages. But another exciting thing about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is that it has references to fan favourite Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies to build on the nostalgia.

3. Tobey Maguire’s Black Suit Reference

Black Suit

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has given the fans what they want. Moreover, Insomniac games have even included a few references to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies. The first reference happened after the Venom Symbiote merged with Peter Parker and became the Black Suit. Peter Parker was seen web-swinging through the city in broad daylight. This scene was included in the video game.

The following reference came a bit later. After the Venom Symbiote tried to merge with Peter forcefully, Peter tried to rip off his Black Suit while the Symbiote tried its hardest to cover up Peter. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the same scene happened. While the Symbiote was forcefully trying to merge with Peter Parker, the user had to use the Right and Left Stick rotation of their DualSense to rip off the suit.

The most iconic of these references came when Peter Parker in the Black Suit made the Bully Maguire hand gestures. His pointing of his two index fingers towards another person is one of the best moments in the game. The following reference was when Dr. Connors explained the Venom Symbiote to Peter Parker. There was practically no difference between these scenes, with the camera focusing on Dr. Connors and Peter putting his back toward the camera.

The Last reference to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies came with the “I’m gonna put some dirt in your eye” reference. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker’s Spider-Man was fighting against a few thugs in the park, and he used this reference. In Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire said this line after Eddie Brock published his article on demeaning Spider-Man.
