Alexia Putellas considering new contract offer from Barcelona

Alexia Putellas is considering what could be a final contract offer from Barcelona.

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner, who joined the club back in 2012, is out of contract in June.

Both sides are eager to come to an agreement with the club earlier this week tabling an offer that would make her the highest-paid player in the squad and double her current salary with the Champions League winners.

Putellas, 29, is considering the proposal — understood to be for two more years — with the club’s choice of successor for manager Jonatan Giraldez, who has announced he will leave at the end of the season, of particular interest.

The Spain international is one of seven first-team players with contracts heading into the final six months with the Liga F champions.

Patri Guijarro, Mariona Caldentey, Asisat Oshoala, Lucy Bronze, Marta Torrejon and Sandra Panos would all be able to leave for free should extensions not be signed between now and the end of June.

The renewal of defender Mapi Leon’s deal until 2026 was announced following the Champions League win over Rosengrad on Thursday.

Putellas has not played since November 19 due to discomfort in her knee after picking up a knock during the match against Benfica.

Both the club and staff are concerned with tests concluding she does not have a serious injury and further advice is being sought over the source of the ongoing issue and what the next steps should be.

Barcelona are next in action after the Christmas break against Levante on January 6.
