Angela Bassett Glitters on Red Carpet for Governors Awards

Angela Bassett hit the red carpet on Tuesday to receive her honorary Oscar in an award-worthy look.

The actress, 65, sparkled in a Dolce & Gabbana nude tulle dress. The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star’s mermaid silhouette was encrusted with crystals from her neck to the dress’ hem. The sleeveless look was created with an illusion tulle that included an ombre effect created by the jewels.

At her waist, she wore a bejeweled belt accompanied by a cluster of crystals that were then dispersed across her bodice and legs. Her yellow tulle mermaid skirt included rows of jewels.

She accessorized the outfit with a pair of drop crystal earrings and a singular diamond ring. She completed the red carpet look with a dewy makeup look that included light brown lipgloss and a gray smokey eye shadow look.

The actress was joined by her family on the red carpet. Her husband, Courtney B. Vance, wore a black velvet tuxedo with a black satin bowtie and a wool gambler hat.

The couple’s 17-year-old twins, Bronwyn Golden and Slater Josiah, matched their father in all-black ensembles — giving their mother her time to shine! Slater posed in a sleek black patent leather suit that included a faint feathered pattern. He completed his look with a black tie.

Bronwyn wore an embellished black A-line dress that included a black beading and white crystals. Her look was topped off with a crystal-encrusted micro mini black tote and silver hoop earrings.

Bassett is being honored at the 14th Governors Awards for her contributions to the film industry. “Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.” Academy President Janet Yang said in a press release.

Bassett has earned two Oscar nominations: first for best actress for 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do with It, then for best supporting actress for last year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for her role as Queen Ramonda. 

Known for her statement-making looks, it comes as no surprise that she also recently slayed her latest red carpet appearance at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Bassett, a presenter, nailed the assignment by rocking a simple yet sultry black velvet off-the-shoulder Dolce & Gabbana gown, which she paired with ruby-and-diamond drop earrings from Lagos.

As the Style Queen she is, Bassett ruled the 2023 red carpet season with an array of winning looks, including her Golden Globes and Oscars gowns, with the help of her longtime stylist, Jennifer Austin.

While accepting her second Golden Globes victory last year, Bassett sparkled in a silver sequin Pamella Roland halter-neck gown. Stylist Austin paired the glittering dress with coordinating silver Sarah Flint heels and Chopard jewels. 

For the 2023 Oscars, the star looked like royalty in a gorgeous purple mermaid gown by Moschino with a dramatic bow neckline. She completed the regal look with stunning Bulgari diamonds fit for a queen. The Serpintini necklace, bracelet and rings featured 93.45 carats.

Stylist Jennifer Austin shared the glam look on Instagram, writing, “Happy Oscars Sunday Fashion Family..the day has arrived!!! Here comes the Queen Mother @im.angelabassett 💜 in the color of ROYALTY!!”
