Ashlyn Harris supports Sophia Bush after she comes out as queer

Ashlyn Harris couldn’t be more “proud” of girlfriend Sophia Bush for coming out as queer.

The 38-year-old soccer star reposted a photo of Bush on the front of Glamour’s latest issue to her Instagram Story on Friday, writing, “Proud of you babe🥹🫠.”

In the photo, the actress used her hands to cover her bare chest, wearing nothing but a brown leather jacket.

“‘I feel like I can finally breathe,’” the cover read, a line from Bush’s emotional essay for the magazine.

In the essay, the “One Tree Hill” star explained that she grew close to Harris while mourning her divorce from now-ex-husband Grant Hughes, whom she had been married to for only one year.

As Bush was navigating the end of her marriage, the USWNT star was also dealing with her own split from wife Ali Krieger

The shared hardship ultimately brought the two closer together as they began attending the same support group.

“I didn’t expect to find love in this support system,” the 41-year-old wrote. “I don’t know how else to say it other than: I didn’t see it until I saw it.”

“And I think it’s very easy not to see something that’s been in front of your face for a long time when you’d never looked at it as an option and you had never been looked at as an option.”

Although the pair were falling in love, Bush said it “turned ugly” quickly as they faced allegations of infidelity, which Harris denied vehemently at the time.

“The ones who said I’d left my ex because I suddenly realized I wanted to be with women—my partners have known what I’m into for as long as I have (so that’s not it, y’all, sorry!),” she wrote.

“The idea that I left my marriage based on some hysterical rendezvous—that, to be crystal-clear, never happened—rather than having taken over a year to do the most soul crushing work of my life?” she continued. “Rather than realizing I had to be the most vulnerable I’ve ever been, on a public stage, despite being terrified to my core?”

Despite people’s opinions online, Bush said the situation left her even more “in awe” of Harris’ “relentless integrity” and devotion to her children — Sloane, 3, and Ocean, 1.

“The way she prioritizes and centers her kids, not only in her life but in the core of her being, is breathtaking to behold,” Bush wrote. “Falling in love with her has sutured some of my own childhood wounds, and made me so much closer to my own mother.”

She continued, “Seeing Ashlyn choose to not simply survive, but thrive, for her babies has been the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed a friend do. And now I get to love her. How lucky am I?”

Page Six confirmed that Harris was dating the “Drama Queens” host in October 2023 — two months after Bush filed for divorce from Hughes.

However, a rep for Hughes told us he wanted nothing but the best for his ex and was in full support of her new romance.

“Grant will always want the best for Sophia, and is supportive of all that makes her happy and fulfilled,” his rep told us.

Harris and Bush made their first public appearance as a couple in March at Elton John’s annual Oscars bash.
