Outside of the main competition, headline announcements included Saudi Arabia landing it’s first film at the festival with Tawfik Alzaidi’s Norah, French actress turned filmmaker Noémie Merlant will debut her second feature The Balconettes as a midnight screening, and Cate Blanchette stars in Rumors, a satirical feature from Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin.

Already announced big-ticket titles confirmed today include Megalopolis, two-time Palme d’Or winner Francis Coppola’s latest, which has locked a gala premiere slot at the Palais on Friday evening May 17. The film will screen in competition. Out of Competition, Kevin Costner will debut the first part of Horizon: An American Saga as a world premiere. And George Miller’s anticipated sequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has been confirmed for an out-of-comp slot. The new installment will be released theatrically in France on May 22, two days ahead of its U.S. launch.

Cannes will open this year with Quentin Dupieux‘s French-language comedy road movie Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act). Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard star and will be in attendance. Presented Out of Competition as a world premiere on the Croisette on Tuesday, May 14, the four-part feature will be released in French cinemas on the same day. Following last year’s billion-dollar Barbie, Greta Gerwig will preside over this year’s competition jury.
