CANTON — The SUNY Canton women’s lacrosse team won its third straight and fourth overall North Atlantic Conference championship by generating a 20-6 victory against SUNY Morrisville on Sunday in the final on SUNY Canton’s Turf Field.
The Kangaroos, who improve to 13-5 on the season, have won 25 consecutive NAC games in the regular season and postseason over the past three years. The school joined the conference in 2019.
With the win, SUNY Canton earns the NAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Samantha Dayter led all players by generating 11 points, including scoring six goals and assisting on five others, as well as totaling eight draw controls and three caused turnovers for the Kangaroos.
Teammate Maddy Caron tallied five goals and an assist to go with five draw controls and Lindsey Wunder scored four goals.
Hannah Reed scored goals for SUNY Canton and Caroline Nappi and Sydney Dunn tallied one each, while Aayliah White recorded six draw controls.
Goalie Olivia Scott made 10 saves to record the win for SUNY Canton.
Maddie Baum paced the Mustangs (8-9) by tallying three goals, while Anyssia Ingersoll totaled two goals, two assists and six draw controls.
The Kangaroos jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead just over five minutes in behind three goals and an assist from Dayter and a goal each from Caron and Wunder.
SUNY Canton built an 8-1 advantage through the first quarter and went on to lead 13-3 by halftime.
Dayter was named as the NAC All-Tournament team MVP, while Wunder, Caron and Scott were also selected to the team as well.
The NCAA Tournament selection show will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday on NCAA.com.
