D.C.-area forecast: Windy today and then a big warm-up

* Wind advisory until 5 p.m. *

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: A second straight day of roaring winds is very annoying. Then, again, March is our windiest month.

  • Today: Mostly sunny, windy. Highs: 50 to 55.
  • Tonight: Not as windy but cold. Lows: 32 to 40.
  • Tomorrow: Sunny, breezy and warmer. Highs: 63 to 68.

Winds will howl for another day but it’s a small price to pay for the beautiful weather that will follow for most of the rest of the week. On Tuesday, winds ease and temperatures soar, rising well into the 60s. Between Wednesday and Friday, highs eclipse 70 with an outside shot at 80 on Friday, depending on cloud cover. The warmth starts to gently pull back over the weekend before the pattern turns much chillier next week. This week is mostly dry but we could see some showers Friday into Saturday.

Today (Monday): Winds from the northwest gusted up to 40 to 50 mph on Sunday, and they’ll probably do so again today. The strongest gusts may be in the morning before easing somewhat during the afternoon. The winds will exert a chill, so dress for winter even as sunshine pushes highs above 50 for most. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: There’s a lingering breeze overnight but it’s much lighter than before. Under clear skies, it’s rather cold as lows settle from near freezing in our colder spots to around 40 downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): This is the first of several beautiful spring days. Sunshine helps highs make a run into the mid-60s for most and a few spots (mainly south and southwest of the District) could flirt with 70. Winds are from the west at 10 to 15 mph, with some gusts up to 20 mph. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear and not as chilly as previous nights. Lows range from the upper 30s in our colder spots to the mid-to-upper 40s downtown. Confidence: High

Wednesday and Thursday have potential to be “perfect 10”-type days. With lots of sun, highs will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s on Wednesday and will be mostly in the mid-70s on Thursday. Lows Wednesday night will be in the 40s to near 50 and on Thursday night in the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Clouds increase on Friday but there’s still plenty of warm air flowing into the region from the south and southwest. Highs make another run well into the 70s and, if clouds hold off long enough, a few spots could hit 80. Some scattered showers could start to pop up as the afternoon wears on. Shower chances increase Friday night as lows settle close to 50. Confidence: Medium

It’s not as warm over the weekend but milder than normal and the cherry blossoms could be getting quite close to peak bloom. Highs are mostly in the low-to-mid 60s both days. Saturday should see a good amount of sun while clouds may increase on Sunday, with a chance of showers. Lows on Saturday night are in the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium
