Well, here’s one simple thing you might not be doing, but should: keeping an eye out for recalled products. This week, major recalls include a Crate & Barrel crib, Trader Joe’s basil, the Ford Bronco Sport and the Toyota Prius. If you have any of these items in your home or garage, you’ll want to act ASAP.

Crate & Barrel has recalled over 3,000 Hampshire Cribs in blush, olive, white, gray and natural brown. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the mattress support pins can loosen and allow the mattress to fall, posing a hazard to children. No injuries have been reported, but there have been 12 incidents where the pins have come loose.

  • Where were they sold? Crate & Barrel in the U.S. and Canada

  • What to do: Stop using the recalled crib and contact Crate & Barrel for a free repair or a full refund. The retailer is contacting all known purchasers directly as well.

Trader Joe’s is recalling Infinite Herbs Organic Basil packs sold from Feb. 1 to April 6 in 29 states and Washington, D.C., for potential salmonella contamination. Twelve salmonella reports in seven states have been linked to the basil, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. One was serious enough to require hospitalization.

Jakks Pacific is recalling around 17,500 Mario Kart 24V Ride-On Racer Cars due to a faulty acceleration pedal. If the pedal becomes clogged with debris, it can stick, posing a crash hazard. The brand has received 65 reports of debris-clogged pedals sticking on the battery-operated cars, 15 resulting in crashes. One minor injury was reported.

  • Where were they sold? Amazon, GameStop, Macy’s, Target, Walmart, Nebraska Furniture Mart and Entertainment Mart from October 2022 through January 2024

  • What to do: Stop using the cars immediately and contact Jakks Pacific to receive a free repair kit. The kit includes a free replacement pedal with installation instructions.

Ford is recalling electric Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks due to a battery malfunction. The cars might fail to detect a low battery charge, which could spur the power to cut off while driving. The recall includes over 450,000 vehicles.

  • When were they sold? The affected Bronco Sports were sold from 2021 through 2024 and the affected Mavericks were sold 2022-2023.

  • What to do: Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, but notification letters are expected to be mailed out by May 13, 2024. Car dealers will recalibrate the body control and power train control modules free of charge.

Toyota is recalling 2023 and 2024 Prius and Prius Prime vehicles due to an issue with the rear door latches. Water can enter the electronic latches, causing the doors to open while the car is in motion if they aren’t locked. The recall impacts 55,000 vehicles in the U.S.

  • When were they sold? Between 2023 and 2024 in the U.S., Japan, Europe, and other parts of Asia and North America

  • What to do: Toyota dealers will replace both the right and left rear door opener switches free of charge. In the meantime, drivers should ensure that the feature that automatically locks the doors when shifting from park is activated.
