Eagles vs Cardinals live analysis in Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray matchup

PHILADELPHIA − Quarterback Jalen Hurts was among the Eagles players defending themselves over whether they’re enjoying victories as much as they should.

That has come to light often this season, when Hurts and others have remarked that the Eagles are not meeting their standard in many of the 11 games they won this season heading into the Eagles’ game Sunday against Arizona.

That was the case last Monday against the Giants after the Eagles’ 33-25 win. Hurts, who is praised for his stoicism to lead the Eagles back from several deficits this season, has the same demeanor after a win.

Hurts was asked if he gets enjoyment from a win. Here, Hurts invoked offensive line coach and run-game coordinator Jeff Stoutland.

“Winning is the only thing that matters,” Hurts said. “Of course, that does something to you. I hope it does. If not, like my Coach Stout says, you might want to get your saliva checked. That’s why we play this game. We play this game to win.

“We play this game to learn through our experiences because those are honestly probably more valuable than any win or loss.”

We’ll see if the Eagles get a chance to enjoy a win against Arizona.

Eagles getting 3 key players back

The Eagles will have cornerback Avonte Maddox on the field for the first time since he tore a pectoral muscle in Week 1 against New England. Maddox was activated off injured reserve Saturday, exchanging roster spots with tight end Albert Okwuegbunam, who suffered a hamstring injury in practice Friday.

In addition, left guard Landon Dickerson is back after missing only one game to have thumb surgery, and linebacker Nicholas Morrow is back after missing one game with an abdominal injury. But the Eagles will be without CB Darius Slay (knee) for a third game. LB Zach Cunningham (knee) is listed as doubtful. He too would miss a third straight game if he can’t play.

What kind of reception will Jonathan Gannon get from Eagles fans?

It should be an interesting reception from Eagles fans for Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon.

Gannon was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator the previous two seasons. It hasn’t been the same. Over the past month, Gannon’s replacement, Sean Desai, was replaced by Matt Patricia (Desai kept the job title).

But here’s why the Eagles are better off without Gannon − and it’s not because of his awkward exit after the Super Bowl, nor his inane comments about head coach Nick Sirianni.

Blasphemy! Why Eagles fans should have rooted for Cowboys on Saturday night

Saturday could have been one of the most difficult nights of the season for Eagles’ fans. As nauseating as it seems, a Dallas Cowboys win over the Detroit Lions helps the Eagles more than what Eagles fans hope for every week: a Cowboys loss.

And that’s the case even though the Eagles would have a chance to clinch the NFC East with a Cowboys loss. Here’s why.

What’s the weather forecast for Eagles vs. Cardinals?

The last afternoon of 2023 should be a nice early winter day for Eagles fans. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a high of 45 degrees. The winds will be 5-10 mph, so it shouldn’t feel much colder than that.

The weather − and the Cardinals − shouldn’t deter Eagles fans from continuing the party into the New Year.

Eagles vs. Cardinals prediction

Martin Frank pick:

Imagine how loudly the “Run the ball!” chants will be if the Eagles don’t run the ball against the NFL’s worst run defense. For the record, the Eagles have 178 and 170 yards rushing in their last two games. Jalen Hurts and receivers should have a field day as well. But can the defense stop Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who’s much better than the Giants combo of Tommy DeVito/Tyrod Taylor?

The pick: Eagles 37, Cardinals 27
