Here Are The 12 Returning ‘Destiny 2’ Greatest Hits Weapons For ‘Into The Light’

Bungie just ran its “reward stream” for its upcoming Destiny 2: Into the Light content, showing off what players will earn and how they’ll do it. The idea here is going through a selection of “greatest hits” Destiny 2 weapons, a mix of raid weapons, pinnacles, a few world drops and some other, stranger ones. For this, you do not need to own, say, an expansion with a raid to get the specific raid weapon they’ve brought back.

Here’s the list, and we can chat more about it after you read it:

  • Mountaintop
  • Hung Jury
  • Blast Furnace
  • Midnight Coup
  • Elsie’s Rifle (The Stranger’s Rifle)
  • Succession
  • Forebearance
  • Luna’s Howl
  • Recluse
  • Falling Guillotine
  • Edge Transit
  • Hammerhead

The weapons are not the only reward, there is also an armor set for each class inspired by early D2. I don’t think it looks great, but it’s free, so whatever. The more important reward is the Superblack Shader, which has some sort of miniquest to unlock it, it seems. It is a real shader, not a one-time-use ornament, as they showed it on armor.

The Origin Trait on these weapons is that kills give grenade energy on a Light subclass and melee energy on a Darkness subclass. There are Limited Edition versions of the weapons that can drop randomly like “shinies” with a different look and four perks instead of two. These will not be available after Final Shape drops. You can attune in the new Hall of Champions to get more favored drops for the gun you want. If you want a lot of rolls, The Final Shape is bringing 100 new vault slots. None of these weapons are craftable, but they will use Bungie’s new “enhanceable” system that will be able to get them enhanced perks somehow. A new perk called Last Stand gives you bonus damage on kill, while melee and grenade kills give a bigger bonus.

The weapons mostly look strong, based on the perks we’ve seen, kind of crazy stuff like Hammerhead with both Rampage and Killing Tally. Others still have their pinnacle perks like Recluse and Luna’s Howl, but not quite at their old power level. But loads of these look strong enough to be considered power creep.

I am curious if there is going to be a “greatest hits” exotic hidden in this content, as it seems like it would be a good capstone to this. But obviously no D2 exotics were sunset, so it would have to be classic D1, something like Icebreaker, but nothing has been promised or even hinted at there yet. (Update: They did say a new exotic mission is coming in Into the Light)

There is one more livestream after this and at the time of this writing I don’t know what it’s about yet because they’re still shooting things in lost sectors. Check back soon.
