MLK DAY EVENT ROUNDUP
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. Events are planned around the mountains to mark the holiday.

14th Annual Kenilworth Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Asheville)
The topic of this year’s event is: A Capital for Black Capitalism: Soul City, N.C. and its Unique Connection to Asheville. The evening’s keynote speaker is Floyd B. McKissick Jr. Esq., the son of the late civil rights leader and Asheville native, Floyd B. McKissick.
- Community potluck: 5-6:30 p.m. in Kenilworth Center, 4 Chiles Ave. (directly behind church)

Volunteer trash pickup and Green Book Project Exhibit(Weaverville)
Weaverville will host a volunteer trash pickup to mark the National Day of Service aspect of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Volunteers can sign up here. Groups will meet at the Community Center, and be deployed to specific areas around town. The Community Center will also be open from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. where the Green Book Project Exhibit is on display. The traveling exhibit that was created to highlight the experiences of African American travelers during the Jim Crow era in North Carolina.

FOLKMOOT LIVE SHOW (Waynesville)

13TH ANNUAL PUZZLEFEST (Mills River)
Area residents come together to complete a 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzle called “Big City Collage” with a variety of major city landmarks located around the world including the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. Puzzlefest participants and members of the community are encouraged to bring clothing items to the church that will be donated to ABCCM’s Transformation Village in Asheville.
