Ian Dinmore Repeats as NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Elite 90 Award Winner

COLUMBUS, OhioIan Dinmore, a senior member of Navy Gymnastics team, is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2024 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championship. This exclusive award has been bestowed on Dinmore for the second consecutive year as he was the recipient of the honor at the 2023 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championship, as well.

Dinmore, a chemistry major at the Naval Academy currently carries a 4.00 GPA for his studies in Annapolis. The Odenton, Maryland native was presented with his award Thursday night during the pre-championship banquet in Columbus, Ohio on the campus of Ohio State University.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

During his studies at the Naval Academy, Dinmore has compiled a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average in the classroom. A USNA Trident Scholar during the 2023-24 academic year, earlier this year he service selected the U.S. Navy Medical Corps for his post-commissioning assignment. Dinmore’s flawless GPA currently ranks first in the Naval Academy’s Class of 2024 for Academic Order of Merit. Additionally, he stands within the top-15 in the class’ Overall Order of Merit and Military Order of Merit. Dinmore has been honored as a College Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athlete in all three years he’s been eligible.

In the gym, Dinmore has appeared in six meets for the Mids so far in 2024 and is coming off a season-high 13.6 score on the floor exercise and 12.2 on the pommel horse at the ECAC Championship last time out on April 6 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He’s tentatively slated to compete on both apparatus for Navy in Friday’s NCAA Championship Qualifying Meet. First touch for Dinmore and the Mids is set for 1 p.m. at Ohio State’s Covelli Center.

Dinmore is the second Navy recipient (Micah Oh, 2020-21, men’s swimming & diving), the second from a service academy to earn the award (Oh) and the fourth from a Patriot League school to receive the prestigious nod (Daniel Mitchell, American, wrestling, 2011-12; Chris Myers, Loyola, men’s lacrosse, 2015-16 and Oh).
