Jake Gyllenhaal slaps his enemies in ‘Road House’ first look

Jake Gyllenhaal is back in action.

Amazon has unveiled a sizzle reel for its upcoming slate of 2024 movie and TV projects, including the Nightcrawler actor’s next project, Road House

We first see a brief glimpse of Gyllenhaal looking absurdly muscular in the middle of what appears to be an underground fighting ring. Later, we witness Gyllenhaal’s character take on a large group of adversaries in a dimly-lit parking lot. He hits an antagonist in the face and sarcastically asks, “Oo, I just slapped you, are you alright?” before proceeding to obliterate the rest of the group with his agile mixed martial arts skills.

The project is a remake of the 1989 action movie of the same name starring Patrick Swayze. In that film, a security guard protects a roadside bar in Missouri from a malicious local businessman. Details on the remake are scarce, but we know that Gyllenhaal’s character is an ex-UFC fighter, and that the film is set in Florida this time around. Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directed the project, and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), and UFC star Conor McGregor costar.

The sizzle reel also showed off footage from Ricky Stanicky, a new fantasy-comedy from Peter Farrelly (Dumb & Dumber, Green Book) starring Zac Efron and John Cena. We also get glimpses of Jennifer Lopez’s documentary This Is Me…Now: The Film, rom-com Upgraded starring Camila Mendes, The Idea of You starring Anne Hathaway, and several other film projects
