With Tigres‘ 3-0 win over Puebla on Sunday night (5-2 aggregate) in the final second leg of the quarter-finals, the semi-finals of the Liga MX Apertura 2023 are set for next week.
Of the four qualified teams, three finished in the top four places in the overall standings, so logic prevailed, at least in the round of the best eight.
America vs Leon
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, America won 2-0 at home with goals from Julian Quinones and Henry Martin to advance 4-2 on aggregate and into the semi-finals for the fourth straight tournament.
Monterrey vs Atletico San Luis
The surprise package in the last four was Atletico San Luis, who after a 1-0 win at the Alfonso Lastras stadium, came to the Steel Giant to draw 1-1 and win 2-1 on aggregate against the team coached by Fernando Ortiz.
Pumas vs Chivas
Guadalajara won the first leg 1-0 at the Estadio Akron against an inoperative Pumas. In the second leg at Ciudad Universitaria, Antonio Mohamed’s side came from behind to win 3-0 and make it 3-1 on aggregate.
Tigres vs Puebla
The reigning champions of Mexican football salvaged a 2-2 draw at the Cuauhtemoc Stadium against a combative and courageous Puebla. In the second leg, Gignac scored twice to beat the Angelopolis side 3-0 and 5-2 on aggregate and continue their quest for a second championship.

When are they played?
The Liga MX Apertura 2023 semi-finals will take place on 6 and 7 December (first leg) and 9 and 10 December (second leg).
Based on recent tournaments, America would play the second leg at the Estadio Azteca on Saturday night. Having topped the regular season, they can choose the day that suits them best.
Tigres were third overall and, having played today, will probably decide to play the return leg at “El Volcan” the following Sunday to have an extra day of rest.
The official schedules for the four matches will be released tomorrow by Liga MX.
