FLAGSTAFF, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Measles has made its way to the High Country.
Coconino County Health and Human Services said on Monday that it has one confirmed measles case and one probable case in the county. Officials didn’t say who the patients are or where they are from.
People may have been exposed to measles at five public places in Flagstaff. They are:
- Planet Fitness, 4650 U.S. Hwy 89, on Feb. 11 from 11 p.m. to Monday, Feb. 12 at 9 a.m.
- NextCare Urgent Care, 399 S Malpais Ln. STE 100, on Feb. 18
- Joann Fabric and Craft, 1514 S Riordan Ranch Rd., on Feb. 29 from 12 – 4 p.m.
- Flagstaff Medical Center, Emergency Department, 1200 N Beaver St., on March 3 & 5
- SimonMed Imaging, Flagstaff, 1000 N Humphreys St #100, Flagstaff, on March 4
CCHHS said anyone who was at those spots and times should be on the lookout for measles symptoms and call their doctor if they develop them. Symptoms include high fever, cough, feeling run down, achy, red, watery eyes, runny nose, and a blotchy rash.
The measles symptoms usually appear about seven to 21 days after a person is exposed.
About one in five unvaccinated Americans who get measles are hospitalized. “Unvaccinated individuals are at highest risk of developing the disease if exposed. The best protection against measles is to receive the measles vaccine,” CCHHS Director Kim Musselman said in a written statement.
