New Jason Bourne Movie in the Works at Universal – The Hollywood Reporter

Jason Bourne may be born again. Universal is developing a new take on the action franchise, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger leading the charge, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The new Bourne project is in the early stages of development. Matt Damon, who became an action star with the role in the early 2000s, could potentially become involved, but at this stage there is no script, and thus no star commitments. Deadline first reported the news.

Damon played Bourne in a trilogy of films from 2002-07, and then reprised the role 2016’s Jason Bourne. The features, based on the novels of late author Robert Ludlum, centered on a government operative who loses his memory and is hunted by his own country. Jeremy Renner also starred in a spinoff, 2012’s The Bourne Legacy.

Berger was Oscar-nominated for the screenplay for All Quiet on the Western Front, which took home best foreign language film among its four Oscar wins. The World War I film, released on Netflix, introduced Berger to new audiences who were not familiar with his previous German-language work, including 2014’s Jack and 2019’s All My Love, both of which bowed at the Berlin Film Festival. Focus recently picked up filmmaker’s Conclave, which stars Ralph Fiennes and John Lithgow.

Berger is repped by CAA.
