WHAT IS THE NFL TRADE DEADLINE?

The NFL trade deadline is the cutoff for any trades between NFL teams. After the deadline, teams cannot trade for players until the new league year begins on March 13, 2024.

WHEN IS THE NFL TRADE DEALINE?

The 2023 NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

After that point, teams can acquire new players only through free agency or the waiver wire.

WHAT HAPPENED AT LAST YEAR’S DEADLINE?

Last year, 10 trades were executed in the week leading up to the deadline after a high of just five such trades in a single season over the decade prior. These weren’t just small deals for depth, either, with big-name players such as Christian McCaffrey, Bradley Chubb, Roquan Smith, T.J. Hockenson, Calvin Ridley and Chase Claypool moved for packages that included first- or second-round picks.

• Eagles make another splash trade with Titans: Kevin Byard’s 92.3 coverage grade since 2020 is the top mark among all defensive backs, and he amassed nine interceptions plus eight more pass breakups over the past two seasons.

• Mecole Hardman reunites with Chiefs: The Jets were wise to admit their mistake in free agency and move on, and the Chiefs added a familiar face to their offense.

• The winless Panthers could unload at the deadline: Edge defender Brian Burns could be dealt in an attempt by Carolina to recoup draft capital following the trade-up for quarterback Bryce Young.

• Do the Titans cut ties with Tannehill early? A starting quarterback getting moved at the trade deadline is a borderline pipe dream, but the Titans are a rebuilding team with back-to-back Day 2 picks spent on signal-callers.

Buy, sell or hold: What should each NFL team do at the 2023 trade deadline?

• Denver Broncos should be sellers: Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Josey Jewell, Justin Simmons, Garett Bolles and Patrick Surtain II should be being shopped ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

• Jaguars should be buyers: This is almost certainly the final season where quarterback Trevor Lawrence is cheap from both a cash and cap perspective, so why not push your chips in and make a move at the deadline to lock in an AFC South title and even push for a top seed in the conference?

• Chiefs strengthen WR corps ahead of trade deadline: A deal for Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins might cost Kansas City a Day 2 pick but would bolster a lackluster receiving group.

• Edge defenders are on the move: We project what potential trades for Chase Young, Brian Burns, Danielle Hunter, Josh Uche and Carl Lawson look like.

• Panthers get a new WR1: Courtland Sutton can provide a big-bodied target that routinely boxes out defenders and wins on jump balls, an element from which Bryce Young could benefit.

• Jets add Hunter Renfrow: Renfrow has been buried on the depth chart in this Raiders offense and has been shopped for weeks, with nine targets on the season and just 31 offensive snaps over the past two weeks.
