Nick Carter, Aaron Carter to Be Investigated in ID Docuseries ‘Fallen Idols’

The controversies surrounding Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter and his late brother, Aaron Carter, will be the subject of an upcoming Investigation Discovery docuseries.

The four-parter set to debut over two nights from May 27 on ID and Max follows the success for the cable network of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, about former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. The docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter will recall the Carter brothers’ outsized fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s before headline-making struggles in recent years.

The ID series will explore accusations of sexual assault against Nick Carter by three women, while also diving into his brother, Aaron Carter’s, struggles with mental health and substance abuse — and the rift that occurred after Aaron decided to support his brother’s accusers. “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter not only offers a deeper understanding around the allegations, but also chronicles the intense backlash Nick’s accusers have faced since their decision to speak publicly and the lasting impact that has had on their lives,” ID said in its press release on the series.

Fallen Idols explores the dark side of fame and fraught family dynamics, but also the intense challenges faced by accusers who come forward against celebrities and pop culture icons in today’s modern world,” ID adds.

Aaron Carter enjoyed fame at an early age as a singer and TV personality before his death in Nov. 2022 at age 34. An autopsy revealed he died as a result of an accident brought on by drowning, and the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax.

In April 2023, Nick Carter was sued for sexual assault and sexual battery by Melissa Schuman, a former member of pop group Dream. Carter previously denied Schuman’s allegations when they were first made in 2017. After Schuman’s decision to speak up, additional accusers, Ashley Repp and Shay Ruth, came forward with their own accusations.

Featuring exclusive interviews with Schuman, Repp and Ruth, the accusations against Nick Carter will accompany revelations about the backlash the accusers have faced since their decision to speak publicly, according to the series producers.

The docuseries also promises firsthand accounts from a member of the Carter family and close family friends, including Nick’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones and Aaron’s former fiancée, Melanie Martin.
