OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Police Department on Monday released the identities of the two officers involved in a fatal shooting over the weekend.
Capt. Jay Leavitt and Officer Robert Soldo were identified as the two off-duty officers who played a role in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Jonathan Hernandez-Rosales and 26-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Juarez.
The shooting took place in an alleyway near 32nd and L Street on Saturday night and happened as the result of a disturbance over a firearm, according to Omaha Police.
Hernandez-Rosales and Rodriguez-Juarez were in an SUV when they were hit by the gunfire from the officers. They were transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased soon after.
In a press release Monday, Omaha Police asked for anyone who was at the Extasis Night Club when the shooting occurred to step forward as a witness by contacting OPD at 402-444-5656.
The department says it believes many witnesses left the scene without speaking to officers and could provide valuable information to the investigation.
OPD plans to provide further details in a press conference Thursday at 1 p.m.
