Piers Morgan names Bukayo Saka and one other current player in greatest-ever Arsenal XI

Broadcaster and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has now named his greatest-ever XI which includes two current players.

Mikel Arteta has built an impressive Arsenal squad, which is currently vying for the Premier League table.

However, the list of Arsenal legends is as lengthy as it is impressive. Some of the game’s greatest have represented the North London club with distinction.

Piers Morgan takes his pick of Arsenal legends

A few names are a certainty for inclusion in an all-time Arsenal XI. It would be near-impossible to leave the likes of Thierry Henry, Tony Adams, and Dennis Bergkamp out.

The likes of Liam Brady, Ian Wright, Sol Campell, Cliff Bastin, David Seaman, Robert Pires, Ashley Cole, and Patrick Vieira, amongst others, would also make the cut for many.

Many members of the 2003/04 Invincibles squad, who won the Premier League title that season without losing a single match, have a claim for inclusion. Key figures from that iconic Arsenal side recently reflected on the experience of confirming their title triumph against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Equally, figures who played a central role in the glorious title win secured on the final day of the campaign against Liverpool at Anfield in 1989, such as Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon, and Paul Merson, would also be in the conversation.

Now, Piers Morgan has listed his all-time greatest Arsenal XI in a post on X, and has named two members of Arteta’s current squad amongst many of those aforementioned legends.

Morgan named the following team: Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Campbell, Cole, Vieira, Declan Rice, Pires, Bukayo Saka, Bergkamp, and Henry.

Do Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice belong in an all-time Arsenal XI?

Saka is a talismanic figure at the Emirates Stadium. Despite being just 22-years-old, the Hale End academy graduate is the star man in this Arsenal team, having already made over 200 appearances and racked up more than 100 goal contributions for the club.

Iconic former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger considers Saka to be a “world-class” player. He has been the Gunners’ most potent attacking threat this season, and could be on the verge of firing Arsenal to their first title triumph in twenty years, if remaining results this season go in their favour.

Meanwhile, Arsenal paid a club-record £105 million fee to prise Rice away from West Ham United in the recent summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has been a revelation in the middle of the park, adding physicality, energy, aggression, and leadership to the spine of the team. He has also shown that he has an eye for goal.

Arsenal fans are already convinced that Rice has lived up to his huge price tag.

It may arguably be premature to include either Rice or Saka in all-time Arsenal XI, but they are certainly well on their way to securing a legacy as heroes of the club.
