Severe storms on E. Plains tonight; a few showers in metro Denver

DENVER — Severe storms are rumbling across the far Eastern Plains tonight. We’ll see isolated showers in the Denver metro area but nothing looks to turn severe.

Keep your eyes to the sky if you’re heading out east. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect until 10pm for the southeastern corner of Colorado. The biggest threats will be for large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Cooler temperatures kick off the weekend with highs in the low to mid 60s Saturday. It’ll be nice midday but a few storms are possible in the southwestern suburbs during the afternoon and early evening. Most of Northern Colorado will stay dry.

The heat returns Sunday with highs in the upper 70s. The winds will be fierce throughout the afternoon, gusting up to 40 to 50mph. Another storm and cold front dive into the state early next week, dropping temperatures, bringing scattered showers and continued blustery winds.

It’ll stay cooler than average and unsettled for much of next week. Highs will only warm into the 50s Thursday and Friday and the Front Range will be in for another round of rain and storms. Stay tuned for more specifics as the storm gets closer.
