We can get two weather updates this morning. The late afternoon thunderstorms could be severe over far southern Michigan. Also the backside of the weather system could be slower to wrap a colder rain back into northern Michigan on Memorial Day.
Here’s the Storm Prediction Center’s tornado and severe thunderstorm forecast for this afternoon and evening. While the chance of an isolated tornado is small, you should know it is there.
The thunderstorms have a higher chance of making a severe wind gust along the southern two tiers of counties. This would occur between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. today.
Here’s the radar forecast showing the arc of thunderstorms late this afternoon and then the wrap around rainfall coming into northern Michigan late on Memorial Day.
So it will turn stormy over southern Michigan late this afternoon and shift to just showers over northern Michigan this evening. Memorial Day should have many more dry hours than wet hours for most of Lower Michigan. Eventually at some point late in the day we will get a large area of colder rain moving southeast into northern Lower Michigan.
