Single Player Animal Well Has a Secret Puzzle that Requires 50 Players to Solve

Surpise-hit indie Animal Well was released late last week and already seems to have trapped a sizable number of players with its gorgeous pixel aesthetic and world full of secrets to uncover. Despite being a single player game, one particular secret puzzle will supposedly require 50 players working in concert to solve. Warning: vague spoilers for a post-game Animal Well secret puzzle to follow!

A mind-bending Metroidvania, Animal Well has much more to offer than initially meets the eye. As reported by IGN, to beat the game and see the credits roll, players are tasked with collecting four flames scattered throughout its various regions. Things get pretty interesting because this is just part one of a three-part treasure hunt.

Following the flames, players must collect all 64 Easter Eggs and place them in the appropriate nook. Doing so will reward the brave Animal Well players with a secret item required to trigger the game’s “true ending”.

Now, where things get genuinely wild is in the third phase. The trick is that players will pass a 40×10 pixelated mural of rabbits mid-hop early in the game, which, post-game, can be manipulated and moved. Digging deeper, players will gain access to a 4×4 grid of tiles similar to the larger one. Where community coordination comes in, as it turns out, is that each player’s completed 4×4 grid makes up 1/50th of the larger whole. We can’t imagine in what universe the average player would be expected to overcome such a test, but thankfully, TechRaptor already did the hard work of collating the results. Once you’ve sorted the mural, you will be ready for the next secret puzzle.
