Six Aggies Earn NFCA All-South Region Honors

LOUISVILLE – Six Aggies from Texas A&M’s softball team earned NFCA All-South Region honors, the organization announced Thursday. Trinity Cannon, Allie Enright, Jazmine Hill, Emiley Kennedy and Koko Wooley garnered first team recognition, while Julia Cottrill received second team honors.

The five first team honors are the most in a season in program history in 30 years, while the six combined recognitions are the most since 2017. It marks the third NFCA region award for Cottrill and Wooley, while Cannon, Enright, Hill and Kennedy were named to a team for the first time in their careers.

Cannon leads Texas A&M, while setting career highs in slugging percentage (.754), on-base percentage (.494), RBI (52), home runs (15) and total bases (98). The senior was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on April 16 after registering a 1.500 OPS and hitting 5-for-8 at the dish with four walks in three games in the series victory at No. 13 Alabama. Cannon earned first team recognition at designated player after making 30 starts at the position, while making 22 starts at first base.

Enright started right field in 52 games and led the team with 10 doubles, while ranking second in RBI (41), slugging percentage (.646) and total bases (82). The junior showcased her wide fielding range and arm strength finishing the season with three outfield assists, while adding four stolen bases offensively. Enright earned SEC Co-Player of the Week on February 19 and was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Hill is the only Aggie this season to have started every game this season in the same position. The center fielder boasts an unblemished fielding percentage, while leading the outfielders with seven assists. Offensively, Hill leads the team with 42 walks, which is tied for eighth-most in a season in program history. She ranks second in on-base percentage (.492), third in slugging percentage (.579) and total bases (81). Hill earned SEC Player of the Week recognition on April 9 after hitting 5-for-8 at the plate with a double, triple and three walks, while driving in three runs and scoring twice in the series win over Kentucky.

Kennedy, one of the nation’s top pitchers, ranks ninth in the nation in complete games (21) and shutouts (8), while her 21 wins rank No. 18 in the country. The junior set program records in SEC play with 86 strikeouts and 100.1 innings pitched, while she appeared in all three games in seven of eight conference series and earned All-SEC First Team honors. Kennedy was named conference pitcher of the week in back-to-back weekends to open the season and D1 Softball National Pitcher of the Week on March 12 after finishing the conference opening series against No. 22 South Carolina 2-0 and one save. The left-handed pitcher struck out a career high 16 batters against UTSA, which started a streak of three consecutive starts of 10-plus strikeouts becoming the first Aggie starter to do so since Lexi Smith in 2017.

Wooley earned her first career first team recognition and third career overall after making 41 starts at shortstop. Despite missing 12 games to injury, the junior led the Aggies with 49 hits, including a team-high 16 multi-hit games and 18 stolen bases. Wooley also led the Aggies with a .366 batting average at the plate, while hitting 49-for-134, four doubles, two triples and driving in 11 runs and scoring 29 runs. The junior was one of the most disruptive players in the SEC earning All-SEC Second Team honors and being named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. Wooley recorded her 14th career triple this season, which ties for third most in program history, while her 63 career stolen bases are tied for fifth-most.

Cottrill earned second team honors after making 47 starts at catcher and two as designated player. The fifth-year senior is hitting 43-for-137 with a .314 batting average at the dish, including eight home runs, eight doubles, 41 RBI and 20 runs. More impressively, she boasts a perfect fielding percentage, including 14 assists, five runners caught stealing and one pick off.
