Tommy DeVito nominated for Rookie of the Week

For the second time in the last three games, quarterback Tommy DeVito has been nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Packers on Monday Night Football.

DeVito completed 17 of 21 passes (81 percent) for 158 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions for a passer rating of 113.9. He also added 10 rush attempts for 71 yards, good for an average of 7.1 yards per carry.

The undrafted rookie quarterback led the Giants 57 yards down the field in the final 1:33 of regulation to set up Randy Bullock’s game-winning 37-yard field goal as time expired. He completed all four of his passing attempts for 53 yards on the final drive.

DeVito has now led the Giants to three consecutive victories, which has catapulted the team back into playoff contention as the Giants sit just one game back from the final Wild Card spot. DeVito has finished with a passer rating above 100 in all three of those wins.

The 25-year-old was especially impressive in the second half, when he completed 10 of 11 passes for 110 yards and the impressive eight-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Hodgins in the corner of the end zone.

Over the last four weeks, only San Francisco’s Brock Purdy (133.0) has a higher passer rating than DeVito’s 119.8.

DeVito was voted the Rookie of the Week against the Commanders in Week 11, when he completed 69.2 percent of his passes for 246 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His 137.7 passer rating was the highest of any undrafted rookie in the common draft era (since 1967).

The following week, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was voted Rookie of the Week after catching five passes for 109 yards in the win over the Patriots.

Cornerback Deonte Banks was also nominated for the weekly honor back in Week 7 when he registered his first career interception and added seven tackles (five solo).

The other players nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week include:

  • LB Ivan Pace, Minnesota Vikings
  • QB Will Levis, Tennessee Titans
  • RB Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
  • RB Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals
  • K Brandon Aubrey, Dallas Cowboys
