VIZIO has agreed to pay $3 million to settle a 2018 class action lawsuit and you may qualify for a payout.
The complaint alleged that the TV maker falsely promised its Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) televisions had a 120Hz and 240 Hz refresh rate, or the number of times a TV screen updates its image. A higher the refresh rate results in a smoother and better-quality viewing experience.
One of the plaintiffs, Jeffrey Koenig, said he purchased a VIZIO TV that advertised a 240Hz refresh rate. In reality, the TV only had a 120Hz refresh rate, according to the lawsuit obtained by Ars Technica. As a result, Koenig experienced “noticeable motion blur” while watching TV.
VIZIO has denied any wrongdoing.
The settlement covers anyone who purchased a VIZIO TV in the state of California after April 30, 2014. If you meet those requirements, you could qualify for a portion of the settlement funds.

You can submit a claim to receive a payment from VIZIO by March 30, but you give up the right to sue the company about the matter in the future. You can exclude yourself from the case by February 29. This means you’ll forgo the payment, but you keep the right to sue VIZIO on your own. You can also object to the settlement by February 29. And, of course, you can choose to take no action.
