‘Wordle’ #900 Hints and Answer for Wednesday, December 6 Puzzle

Struggling with today’s Wordle puzzle? Don’t fret, because Newsweek is here to help.

Created by Josh Wardle during lockdown as a gift for his spelling bee-loving partner Palak Shah, Wordle became an overnight sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s really sweet,” Shah told The New York Times in 2022. “This is definitely how Josh shows his love.”

The Brooklyn-based software engineer realized that other people might enjoy the word puzzle game, so he uploaded Wordle to the internet in October 2021. Wordle had 90 players in November, but by December, the game had amassed 2 million users worldwide.

Over two years later, and Wordle is still hugely popular. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Even Wardle himself admits to struggling with the game, usually needing at least four or five guesses to find the answer.

“[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts,” he told Newsweek in January 2022, shortly before selling the game to The New York Times for a seven-figure sum.

At the time, Wardle insisted that inventing the game didn’t give him an advantage, as the word choice was completely randomized. However, The New York Times has since hired a Wordle editor to curate the daily puzzles.

With the title of “associate puzzle editor,” Tracy Bennett is entrusted with selecting a new word every day, with the aim of avoiding offensive options or other choices that might anger players.

“I think there was some nervousness in the community of Wordle solvers, that I would change things somehow, you know, that I would mess with things too much, but my family and friends were very proud of me,” she said in an interview with Today.
