Young Sheldon Actor Iain Armitage Bids Farewell as Show Ends After 7 Seasons

Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage has shared a heartfelt Instagram post marking the end of the series and his run as the show’s titular boy genius.

The actor, who has played young Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory spin-off for seven seasons, bid farewell to the series in an Instagram post that coincided with the two-part finale airing on May 16. He reflected on his time in the role and also looked ahead to the future, saying he is “excited to see what’s next.”

“I’ve always wondered what this day would feel like, and now it’s here!” Armitage wrote in the caption of the post. “Thank you for a wonderful ride. I will miss everyone so much, and I want you to know that it’s been an honor to play this part, and it’s been a joy to work with people I love so much. I’m excited to see what’s next, and I hope you’ll join me on the next chapter, whatever that is. I truly hope you enjoy the finale. It was made with a lot of love.”

Armitage was only eight years old when he landed the lead role on Young Sheldon and started filming his scenes for the first season, which aired in 2017. He has also starred in several other projects, with a notable turn as Ziggy Chapman in the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies, premiering in the same year as Young Sheldon.

Warning! Spoilers about the ending of Young Sheldon follow below.

Young Sheldon aired for a total of seven seasons consisting of 141 episodes, including its send-off episodes this week. The finale featured Jim Parsons reprising his role as Sheldon Cooper on-screen for the first time since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, along with Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler, now Sheldon’s wife.

While this was a final swan song for many characters, some will live on in the Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The series will focus on the characters of young married parents Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment), so, at this time, it is unclear if any of the Coopers will appear in the series.

More news is expected in the coming months as Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is set to premiere in Fall 2024, though there is no exact date yet.
